And Elementary School Student Wonders Aloud
Date: September 15th, 2009 Email: nehla94@yahoo. com AN OPEN LETTER TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE.Dear Americans, As a fifteen years old child and a nine grader, I am completely disappointed with the way things are going in this country. I cry everyday when l watch the news with my mom and l see people shouting and insulting the president. What are you teaching us the children? My mother tells me all the time to be a problem solver and not a trouble maker. All l see on television today is trouble. I hear people calling the president names and holding all kinds of pictures of him. It is very degusting and disgraceful. I am sure there is a better way of expressing one’s frustration. What do you want a child like me to learn from what l see? You want the teachers to teach us to be polite and respectful yet you all are not being polite and respectful to the president of our country. I asked my mother why people say the president’s healthcare plan is socialist and my mother said because his plan offers every American healthcare. Now l asked my mother, since every child is offered free education in this country, would you call it ‘socialized’ education? Many children all over the world look up to president Obama. I think he is a president to be proud of. l still find it hard to understand why people oppose him at every turn by plotting against any initiative he offer’s, calling it socialist and continuously praying for his failure even if it would mean the downfall of their own country. American people, we can do better. Let us not wash our dirty linen in the street. The world is watching us, it is our responsibility to stand and shout our loyalty to our president. Are you saying that when we disagree with parents on how they run the house, we should insult them and call them names? If we don’t agree with the school authorities we should disrespect them. We are supposed to learn from your examples. I think president Obama is a good man who has the ability to deal with people at all levels. If he can come down to our level to discuss with children like us in classrooms, it means he is open to friendly conversations. He has the ability to work under pressure on multiple assignments at once, the ability to thrive in a fast paced, diverse and demanding environment, he possess a cheerful demeanor, professional presentation and eagerness to contribute, he is responsible with an excellent work ethic and he has the attitude of a team player and above all he has the ability to deal with stressful situations and difficult people. Who can be a more persuasive role model for students to stay in school or commit to serving their country than a very intelligent, patriotic and religious man who holds the highest office in the land?
