Our Challenge for Senator Byrd

Posted on: Sunday, April 6th, 2003 by Nina May

"Today I weep for my country. No more is the image of America one of strong, yet benevolent peacekeeper. ... Around the globe, our friends mistrust us, our word is disputed, our intentions are questioned. We flaunt our superpower status with arrogance. After war has ended the United States will have to rebuild much more than the country of Iraq. We will have to rebuild America's image around the globe," Senator Robert Byrd, March, 2003

I dare Senator Robert Byrd, Democrat from West Virginia, to greet PFC Jessica Lynch with these exact words on her return from Germany, where she is recuperating after having been captured while "injuring" America's image, as he says. We will see if he is a man of convictions, or just another politician spouting his party's line, hoping it will hurt our Commander in Chief, George, W. Bush. Will he show the same courage this young 19 year old girl has and say what he REALLY thinks of America, our military, and the Commander in Chief? Don't hold your breath. But even if he doesn't . . . we can read above, what he has already said, so obviously believe. And it is up to West Virginians to remember these words the next time he is up for election.

Oh, and someone should remind him that the people he says mistrust us... are not our friends.

Either You Are, Or You Aren't a Renaissance Woman!

A renaissance woman is someone who sets her own agenda for personal achievement and will not allow herself to be manipulated or intimidated by self-proclaimed spokesmen who try and wrap their political philosophies around terms like "equality," "choice," "peace," "tolerance" and "diversity." She understands that she has been created for such a time as this and embraces her destiny as a challenge and not a curse, no matter what her personal circumstances. She is a winner not a whiner, a leader not a follower, a victor, not a victim. She wants to change the paradigm of the feminist movement that has served to marginalize and ridicule women who do not follow their collective agenda.

Millions of women around the country, from all professions, backgrounds and cultures, are courageously picking up the mantel of leadership and virtue, that the feminist movement has squandered. They are providing thoughtful and accurate analysis, on a variety of issues, of where, and who we are as a nation.

Remember, this is not a club. It is a mindset!
